During World World War II he took part in the Burma Campaign.
During the Korean War he was in command of the 4th Fighter-Interceptor Wing. Later he entered the National War College.
Following graduation he was named Director of North Atlantic Treaty Organization Affairs in the Office of the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. He was later named Military Assistant to the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs.
