He joined the Wehrmacht in 1935. He served in the Invasion of Poland and Battle of France. In June 1941 he took part in Operation Barbarossa, the invasion of the Soviet Union.
On 20 October 1941 he was awarded the Iron Cross I and World War II Bix was appointed to the Panzer Regiment 35 attached to the 4th Panzer Division on Eastern Front.
He later served near Danzig in East Prussia. His unit was encircled in the Courland pocket in January 1945.
He was awarded the Knight"s Cross of the Iron Cross on 22 March 1945. In 1956 he joined the Bundeswehr and served until 1970, retiring as an Oberstabsfeldwebel (Sergeant Major).
