Hidaka was born in 1903, in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan.
Graduated from Tokyo University (1940).
After serving as engineer at Kobe Marine Meteorological Observatory, became professor of Tokyo University (1942). Achieved international fame by publishing some 350 theses on oceanophysics, oceanography and calcura- tion of numerical values written in Japanese or European languages which include *'Depth of Ocean Current Observed from Distribution of Salinity” and “Study of Waves.” After war went to U.S. upon invitation and served as guest professor at Washington University and Texas Agricultural and Technical University and returned home in 1953. Same year attended Pacific Science Council held in the Philippines as representative of Japan. Presently serves as president of Japan Oceanographical Society. Author of “Science of Sea,” etc.
