In 1931 Tsumura Hideo graduated from Tokyo University.
After graduating from Tokyo University Tsumura Hideo joined the editorial department of Asahi Shimbun, for which newspaper he had been flm critic, under the pen name "Q" for the past 20 years. He was also editor of Asahi Camera magazine.
Hideo's younger brother is the poet Tsumura Nobuo, his son Tsumura Takashi is an actor.
