Hilda Besner was born on October 30, 1950, in Lima, Peru, the daughter of Jacob and Hanna (Silverman) Besner, a homemaker.

Besner attended Duke University from 1968 till 1969, and University of Miami, Coral Gables, graduated from it in 1971. She then graduated from Nova University, with Master of Science degree in 1972 and Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1975.
Besner was an intern in clinical psychology at Malcolm Bliss Mental Health Center from 1975 to 1976, becoming a clinical psychologist in private practice in St. Louis that year. She was a clinical psychologist for four years from 1977. At once she has worked a clinical psychologist in private practice, Fort Lauderdale.
Hilda worked in Dade County Department of Youth and Family Development at the position of clinical psychologist from 1977 to 1978. She worked in Nova University as adjunct professor at Florida School of Professional Psychology from 1979 till 1982.
Hilda served in Southeast Biosocial Institute at the position of a director of clinical internship from 1980 to 1981.
Nowadays Hilda Benson has held the position of vice president in Optima Care from 1994.
Hilda has been very involved in the area of assessment and has taught doctorate students how to administer and interpret psychological instruments.
Together with Dr. Adele Besner, she developed a coloring book for children and a companion book for adults to help deal with the trauma following Hurricane Andrew.
Active in many professional, civic and community organizations, Besner has received numerous community and professional awards and honors. She received the “Outstanding Contribution to the Community” award from the Florida Psychological Association.
Hilda was named district woman of the year in National Business and Professional Women in 1983. Also she has an award from Florida Psychological Association in 1993, for outstanding contribution by a psychologist for community service.

Besner was a member of American Psychological Association, Association for Applied Psychophysiology and Biofeedback, Biofeedback Society of Florida (founding member; past president), Florida Psychological Association, Biofeedback Society of Southeastern Florida (past president), Broward County Psychological Association (past president) and Women’s Executive Club.
She was a president and member of board of directors.
