He rose to the rank of Gon Dainagon (Deputy Prime Minister) and acted as Regent for ex-Emperor GoKameyama. At the death of the ex-Emperor (1424), he retired and became a Buddhist priest, assuming the religious name of Yuko. After the assassination of Shogun Yoshinori Ashikaga by the Akamatsu family in 1441 and the death of Shogun Yoshikatsu soon afterward, pro-South Dynasty warlords rose in Yama- to, Kii and Kawachi Province. They in-vaded Kyoto and set fire to the Imperial Palace (North Dynasty). Those warlords supported Konzosu, a priest who claimed to be a descendant of the South Dynasty. Arimitsu joined the South Dynasty forces and took Konzosu to Mt. Hiei. He, however, failed to win the cooperation of the priests of Mt. Hiei and Konzosu killed himself and Arimitsu was killed. Although Arimitsu's son, Sukechika, was not involved in the incident directly, he was also put to death.
