廣井 勇
He graduated from the Sapporo Agricultural School (1881). Went to Germany and graduated from the Stuttgart technical college.
Was appointed an official of the Government’s Hokkaido Development Agency and engaged in railway construction in the island. Went to the United States (1883) and participated in riparian works on the Mississippi and worked in an American bridge construction company. Upon returning to Japan (1889), he was appointed professor at the Sapporo Agricultural School and adviser to the Hokkaido Government on its harbor construction works. He contributed much to the construction of Hakodate and Otaru harbors. Was appointed professor on bridge engineering at Tokyo University (1899).
