Sputniko!"s work falls within the practice of critical design. She invents devices and creates songs and music videos which include the devices in their diegeses. Although they serve as theatrical props, the devices are fully realized prototypes built in collaboration with scientists.
Her style is a mixture of British black humor and Japanese popular.
Sputniko! was featured in the exhibition Talk to Maine at The Museum of Modern Art in New New York She has also exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo, the Aomori Museum of Art, and the Third Art & Science International Exhibition in Beijing.
