When the Empress became a nun she took the tonsure assuming the religious name of Hokinni. When her brother was exiled by Priest Dokyo she, too, was banished to Bingo (Hiroshima Prefecture) (769). Later she was pardoned.
When the revolt of Nakamaro Puji wara took place she advised the Emperor to exile the guilty instead of executing them. During a famine she gave food and shelter to 83 orphans.
