Background
Hirosawa Saneomi was born in 1833. He was the fourth son of Yasutoshi Kashiwamura, a retainer of the Choshu (Yamaguchi) Clan.

Hirosawa Saneomi was born in 1833. He was the fourth son of Yasutoshi Kashiwamura, a retainer of the Choshu (Yamaguchi) Clan.
Shinsaku Takasugi and he were chief staff officers of the Yamaguchi Clan when Shimonoseki was bombarded by foreign warships (1863). When the Shogunate forces attacked his clan, he proceeded to Hiroshima and asked for discontinuation of the attack unsuccessfully. He then came back to his clan, became its leader and resisted the Shogunate forces, in consort with pro-Imperialist elements of the Satsuma and Tosa Clans, he planned to overthrow the Shogunate government (1867). After the Restoration, he was appointed a Court councillor. Takayoshi Kido and he were known as two outstanding Imperial Government leaders hailing from Yamaguchi.
His son, Kinjiro, was made a count.
