Background
Hirose Seison was born in Buzen Province (Oita Prefecture) in 1819. Tanso Hirose adopted him as son for his distinguished talent.

Education
He studied at the Kangi-en, the private school of Tanso Hirose, who adopted him as son for his distinguished talent. After he further studied in Edo.
Career
Returned home and was appointed tutor to the Lord of the Funai Clan (Oita Prefecture). After the Meiji Restoration (1868), he served in the Imperial Government and later was appointed instructor at the Peeresses School. Also maintained a private school.
