A native of Kagoshima, Kagoshima and graduate of Waseda University, he joined Daiwa Bank in 1986.
Membership
Leaving the private sector in 2000, he ran unsuccessfully for the House of Representatives as a member of Morihiro Hosokawa"s Japan New Party. He ran again three years later as a member of the DPJ and was elected for the first time.
