He graduated from the Medical School, Tokyo University (1914), where he studied internal diseases. Went to the United States (1923) as a Rockefeller Foundation student, he studied at the Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins University.
Appointed director of the Sapporo Municipal Hospital. Obtained his doctorate for his thesis on experiments on thyroid gland (1922). Appointed Chief of the International Department of St. Luke's Medical Center (1925) and later director of St. Luke’s Women’s College.
