Hisara Tanaka was born in 1890 in Gifu, Japan.
In 1921 found employment at Shufu no Tomo Co., produced illustrations for novels. In 1930 began drawing manga series for "Yomiuri sundei manga". Produced illustrations for novels serialized in newspapers. Known for his illustrations of "modan gaaru" (modern girls) during the 1920s-30s. He was on the staff of Shufu-no-Tomo, a women's magazine.
He was a skilled cartoonist and has earned for himself quite a reputation with his original illustrations for humorous stories in popular magazines and periodicals. Works include "Value of Tears" and "Building of Women's Beauty."
