Honda Minoru was born in Shimane Prefecture.
He is a technician of the Kurashiki Astronomical Observatory, where he discovered a new comet with a 12-inch telescope with a special device attached. It was observed by him in October in 1940, January in 1941 and November in 1947. After it was reportea to the Harvard Astronomical Observatory, it came to be known as the Honda Comet internationally. The Astronomical Society of Japan awardea him a prize for his discovery. He discovered another new comet in the Perseus Constellation in June, 1948.
