Began as clerk with Hess-Bright Manufacturing Company, Philadelphia, October 1904. Assistant paymaster Baldwin Locomotive Works, Philadelphia, 1905-1910. Independent insurance broker, Philadelphia, 1910-1941.

Private infantry Pennsylvania National Guard, 1903-1909, Plattsburg, 1915-1916. First lieutenant, captain, major, Field Artillery, 81st Division, France, 1917-1919. Lieutenant colonel, colonel, Field Artillery Reserve, 1920-1941 (commanded 311th Field Artillery Regiment, 79th Division).

Federal service since September 1941. Executive assistant to commanding general United States Army Air Force, Washington, September 15, 1941-1943. Transferred November 1943.

Assistant chief of staff, 73d wing, 20th Air Force, 1943-1946.
