Hori Bumpei was born in Okayama Prefecture.
Graduated from Tokyo Higher Commercial School (1904).
After serving with Osaka Shosen (OSK Line) established and became president of Osaka Muslin Manufacturing Company (1912) which later developed and was merged into Fuji Spinning Company with him becoming its president (1941). Appointed to present post (1947), went to U.S. as representative of Fiber Industry (1951). Vice-president of Keidanren (The Federation of Economic Organizations), permanent director of Nikkeiren (The Japan Federation of Employers Associations).
