Career
One of the 47 Loyal Ronin of Ako. Celebrated as Yasube-e Horibe who, according to legend, killed 13 men singlehanded in the Takata-no-baba vendetta. Actually he killed only three men including the Murakami brothers and Sukenori Nakatsugawa in rescuing Rokurozaemon Sugano, his benefactor. At the time, he was a Nakayaraa, a Ronin oi Murakami, Echigo Province (Niigata Prefecture). Because of this distinguished feat, he was adopted as son of Yahe Horibe, a retainer of the Ako Clan in Harima (Hyogo Prefecture) of Lord Asano. He was granted a fief of 200 Koku of rice. After he participated in the famous vendetta on Yoshinaka (Kozuke) Kira in 1702, he killed himself by committing harakiri as ordered by the Shogun in the following year.
