Career
One of the ancient Rods of whom many romantic stories are told in Kojiki, the oldest book of Iapanese history which consists largely of ancient legends rather than accounts of factual historical events. Hosuseri-no-mikoto, who was born between the male god Ninigi-no- mikoto and the female god Konohana- sakuya-hime, made fishing his profession and therefore \yas known by the nickname of Umi-no-sachi (Bless of the Sea). It is said that Umi-no-sachi and his younger brother Hikohohodemi-no-mikoto who was a hunter and accordingly was called Yama- no-sachi (Bless of the Mountains) once traded their business for one day just for The legend goes on to say that Yama-no-sachi, while engaging in unfamiliar business of fishing, made the mistake of losing his brother's valuable hook and the latter forced the former to un-dergo various ordeals as punishment. Yama-no-sachi later succeeded in revenging himself on his brother and made him pledge allegiance to him. (See Hikohoho- demino-Mikoto).
