Gould, Howard was born on March 19, 1867 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States. Son of Doctor H. W. and Éleuthère Irénée Gould.
Educated grammar and high schools, Boston.
Began theatrical career, 1882, as call boy at old Boston Museum. Afterward acted with James O’Neil, Maggie Mitchell, E. H. Sothern, and starred 4 years in Prisoner of Zenda, 1 year in A Colonial Girl. Leading support to Mistress Patrick Campbell, Mary Mannering and Viola Allen, 1901-1907.
Starred in Witching Hour, 1908-1910. Leading man in Madame X, 1910-1911. In Garden of Allah, 1915-1918.
One of title rôles in Three Wise Fools, 1919-1921. Leading man in “Welcome Stranger,” 1921-1922.
