He entered the office of H. W. Colwell as student-draftsman and continued his training under Ellis Jackson. In 1902 he joined the latter in partnership (Jackson & Hilton) and under the firm name was identified with the design of several churches, schools, hospitals and various other buildings in his native city. Among these were the Woodbury Memorial Church, Providence; East Providence Public Library; Methodist Church, Centerville, R. I.; Girl's Dormitory at East Greenwich Academy; Surgical Ward and Operating Theatre, Homeopathic Hospital, Providence; Cushing Apartment House, Providence. Also he was Associate Architect on planning the Surgical Ward and Operating Theatre of the Massachusetts Homeopathic Hospital at Boston.
Elected to the A. I. A. in 1901, Mr. Hilton was a loyal member of both the Institute and the R. I. Chapter, having served in the latter as Secretary 1903-4 and Treasurer from 1904 to 1907.
