Principal of Stellarton High School, 1877-1878. Guysboro’ Academy, 1880. New Glasgow High School, 1880-1881.

Won Canadian Gilchrist Scholarship, 1881, and proceeded to England. Tutor in Classics, Dalhousie University, 1887 - 89. Classical Master in Halifax Academy, 1889-1894.

Lecturer in Classics, Dalhousie University, 1890-1894. Principal of Halifax Academy, 1891-1894. Dean of Dalhousie College, 1901.

Honourable Doctor of Laws Toronto University, 1907. Professor of Classics in Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, since 1894. Member of Advisory Board of Education for Nova Scotia since 1906.
