This book is designed to serve a two-fold purpose. First, it contains information essential to everyone responsible for planning any phase of printing - whether the owner, plant manager, production man, salesman, foreman, supervisor, or buyer. After a brief discussion of fundamental terminology and basic principles of good planning, the complex science of imposition is broken down into its component parts in a clear, easily readable fashion that the printing "layman" can understand. Second, this book will serve as an operating manual to those people responsible for the daily planning of printed work of all kinds, with practical information concerning various phases of imposition. Many subjects, including lockup, lineup, establishing margins, elimination of workups, and so-called "tricks" of imposition are covered comprehensively. This book helps cut costs by eliminating uncertainty and confusion and assists in designing complete, definite job instructions that will expedite production.
