In the 2008 Constituent Assembly election he was elected from the Nawalparasi-6 constituency, winning 10029 votes.He is falsely being implicated by the ruling parties as someone who is responsible for India blockade 2015.

He was a member of Nepali Congress until 2007 when along with Mahantha Thakur, also previously a member of Nepali Congress, formed a new political party which is responsible for raising the voices of Madheshi people and fighting for their rights.
