Mr. Wang graduated from the Chihli (Hopei) Technical College at Tientsin in 1910 and the Chemistry Department of the Shanghai Arsenal School in 1912.
Huai-sheng Wang was appointed engineer in the chemical department of the Hanyang Arsenal for research in steel metallurgy and analytical chemistry in 1913. Then he went abroad at the expense of the Ministry of War in 1914 to study steel manufacture at Bohlor Steel Works in Austria, transferred to Bofors Steel Works in Sweden to continue his study along same lines in 1915 and in the meantime, devoted much attention to the study of manufacture of alloy steel for war materials.
When in Austria Mr. Wang was permitted to go to the front to have a real touch with the battle-fields during the World War, but later proceeded to Sweden after China had joined the Allied Powers. After that he returned to China in 1917 to take up the post of director of the steel works of the Hanyang Arsenal, founded and organized the China Machine Works at Woosung for the manufacture of spinning and weaving machines and also the China Industrial Laboratory at Shanghai in 1919. Huai-sheng Wang was also appointed engineer in the steel works of the Manchurian Arsenal and concurrently served in the same capacity in the Machine Works in 1923, promoted director of the Manchurian Foundry and Machine Works with the brevet rank of Colonel and concurrently acted as chief instructor of the Arsenal College in 1924-1928.
Then he came to Shanghai in 1929, devoting himself to authorship and he had recently written a book entitled "Manufacture of Steel by Electrical Heat" based upon Sico's "Electrical Steel Manufacture" American publication - and Rodenhaufe's "Electrical Furnace" - German publication and "The Steel-Foundry" by Howe Hall. Those books were published by the Commercial Press, Shanghai and was an important contribution to the science of steel manufacture.
