Chan, Huan-Chiang was born on July 21, 1953 in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia. Son of Hung-Ghee Chan and Swee-Yen Chong.


Bachelor with honours, University Sciences Malaysia, 1976. Master of Arts, University Sciences Malaysia, 1980. Master of Arts, University Pennsylvania, 1985.

Doctor of Philosophy, University Pennsylvania, 1988.


Research assistant University Sciences Malaysia, Penang, 1976-1979, research fellow, 1979-1992, associate professor, since 1993. The ultimate goal to be attained is not only to be saved from something. The purpose God has is to be saved to something.


All human life is sacred and created by God and therefore, we must see all human life as significant and valuable. When governments implement the death penalty, then the life of the convicted person is devalued and all possibility of change in that person’s life ends.


Some personalities are difficult to manage, especially if they are prone to despair. Do not give up on a search of the paths of God, and the sense of joy and assurances you are looking for will be received.
