He taught at various Universities in Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the United Kingdom and the United States. He was a Heisenberg scholar from 1996 and received the Christa-Hoffmann Riem” Award for Qualitative Research in 1997 and became Professor in Religious Studies at the Theological Faculty of the University of Zurich in 2000.
