As an archaeologist, Savory studied the prehistory of Britain and served as keeper of the archaeology department at the National Museum of Wales from 1955 to 1976. A long-term member of Wales’ Ancient Monuments Board within the Ministry of Public Building and Works, Savory wrote several books about the physical evidence of early life in Great Britain. His first work, the one he wrote with Willoughby Gardner, was Dinorben, a Hill-Fort Occupied in Iron Age and Roman Times. His Early Iron Age Art in Wales was published in 1964, followed by Spain and Portugal: A Survey of the Prehistory in 1968. His later writing includes a contribution made to a 1980 collection entitled Culture and Environment in Prehistoric Wales.
