Protestant minister, 1954-1964. Lecturer in Analytic Philosophy, 196467, Professor of Ethics and Philosophy of Religion, 1967, Groningen. President of the society ‘Het Spinozahuis’, from 1972.
Hubbeling’s philosophy had its starting-point in the conviction that language and logic are more objective than the data of human consciousness, because language and logic are universally accessible. His admiration for Spinoza’s philosophy originated in the clear argumentation of this philosopher. He interprets Spinoza as claiming that the laws of logic are the expression of the essence of God. Hubbeling aimed at the explication of the reasonableness of Christian religion and the elaboration of a deontic logic.
