In 1974 Collins obtained Bachelor of Arts degree at Pembroke College in England. In 1975 he attained Bachelor of Civil Law degree at the same college. Moreover, in 1976 Hugh got Master of Laws degree graduating from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, United States.
Hugh Collins served as a tutor of law at Brasenose College in Oxford, England. In 1990 he became the Professor of English Law at the London School of Economics, where he was also head of the department of law for two terms of office. Collins has been a Visiting Professor at New York University Law School and Boston University Law School. Also, from 1991 till 2015 he served as a member of the editorial committee of The Modern Law Review, including a term as General Editor, and as a founder and editor of the European Review of Contract Law.
