MATHIAS, Hugh Brodrick was born on March 9, 1803 in Tenby, Pembrokeshire. 2nd surviving son of late George Mathias of Tenby, and Caroline, daughter of late Edward Law of Staplegrove, Somerset. Brother of Colonel Mathias, Aide-de-camp, Companion of the Bath.
Education
Studied at Allhallowes Grammar School, Honiton, Devon. St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London.
Career
Entered the army as surgeon, 1880. Soudan Expedition, 1898, in medical charge 79th Q.O. Cameron Highlanders (despatches twice, 2 clasps). Decorated for Nile Campaign, 1898.
