Served in Royal Navy 1862-1865. Entered 10th Royal Hussars as Cornet, 1868. Captain 1875; Major, 1881.
Baronet-Lieutenant-Colonel 1884. Colonel, 1888; Major-General 1900. Aide-de-camp to Commander-in-Chief, India, 1876-1881.
Served in Afghan war, 1878-1879. Egyptian campaign, 1884 (despatches). Bechuanaland expedition, 1884-1885, where lie raised and commanded 3rd Mounted Rifles.
Commanded 18th Hussars, 1889-1893. Assistant-Adjt. for Cavalry at Headquarters, 1893-1898. Distinguished Service Reward, 1905.
Decorated: Afghan war. Egyptian war; Bechuanaland expedition. Justice of the Peace Carnarvonshire: Lieutenant-Governor of Jersey 1904-1910.
