With his height of 2.15 m (71 ft), he was one of the tallest Turkish basketballers. He started playing basketball at the age of 27. From 1962 to 1974, he played in center position at the İstanbul Teknik Üniversitesi B.K. and Altınordu.
He was capped 73 times by the Turkey national basketball team
Beside his sports career, he starred between 1965 and 1978 also in some Turkish movies in supporting roles for his giant-like appearance. Hüseyin Alp died on January 8, 1983 at the age of 48 in Istanbul.
A basketball club formed of junior women"s at Kağıthane district in Istanbul, the "Kağıthane Hüseyin Alp South.K.", honors him with its club title.
