Ian Chorao was born in New York. He grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.
Ian Chorao attended the State University of New York at Purchase, where he received a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1990. Besides, Chorao graduated from the New York University Silver School of Social Work in 2013.
Ian Chorao served as a social worker at the Jewish Association for Services for the Aged. He also worked as an art director for film and photo projects. After education at the New York University Silver School of Social Work, Chorao started to work as a psychotherapist at the Fifth Avenue Counseling Center in 2012-2018. Since 2016, he is a psychotherapist in private practice. With an extensive background in the arts, and as a published author, Chorao incorporates creative, out-of-the-box thinking into the therapeutic process. He works with adolescents, adults, couples, specializing in anxiety, depression, anger, jealousy, shame, self-esteem, identity issues, relationship conflicts, parenting, intimacy, communication, loss, life transitions, trauma.
Ian Chorao's first novel, Bruiser, was published in 2003. The title character is a nine-year-old boy growing up in a troubled Manhattan household. His parents' marriage is failing, and his brothers torment him mercilessly. Bruiser runs away in an attempt to escape his painful and confusing home life. Chorao's novel details Bruiser's journey of self-discovery, a trip he undertakes, accompanied by Darla, his ten-year-old neighbor, that leads him to West Virginia and North Carolina in search of answers to life's most baffling questions. A New York native, Chorao draws on his own memories in detailing Bruiser's hometown accurately, and he composed his novel in the first person to fully capture the thoughts, feelings, dreams, and emotions of a nine-year-old boy. Besides, Chorao is the author of the screenplay, Snapped.
