Ian Williams writes challenging poetry. His poems address the crisis of young, black masculinity in cities, paint starkly urban portraits of live and break open stereotypes. Sly humor laces through this collection, and Williams is adept at playing with language to change meanings in unexpected ways. For him it's easy to turn the word go into gone.

He is the 2014-2015 Canadian Writer in Residence at the Calgary Distinguished Writers Program, based at the University of Calgary. His first book of poetry, You Know Who You Are, was shortlisted for the ReLit Awards. Canadian Broadcasting Company named Williams to its 2012 list of Canadian writers to watch.
Williams earned Honours Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Toronto.
