Studied in Riga with I.Maevskii, 1922-1923, at the Latvian Conservatory from 1924. Studied in Riga with I.Maevskii, 1922-1923, at the Latvian Conservatory from 1924. Pupil of I.Vitol.
Career
Early musical training in Smolensk, 1918-1920. Finished his postgraduate training under Vitol, 1933. Taught composition at the Riga Musical Institute and at the Vigner Musical Institute, 1931-1940.
Musical director, concurrently, with Riga Radio. Conducted symphony concerts. Taught at the Latvian Conservatory from 1944.
Lecturer from 1946. Professor from 1955. Composed mainly symphonies.
