家治 徳川
Ieharu was born on June 20, 1737 in Japan. His childhood name was Takechiyo (竹千代). He was the eldest son of Shogun Ieshige.
Ieharu Tokugawa succeeded to Shogunate in 1760. Due to the misgovernment of Roju (Minister) Okitsugu Tanuma and with subsequent calamities, the Tokugawa regime declined after 1769. Ieharu was sagacious and was held in great regard by his grandfather Yoshimune. He was, however, misled by flatterers and cunning officials, and taking up to wine and women, lost his health and failed in administering the national affairs.
