Igai Keisho was born in 1790.

Education

Studied under Ryukei Iwaaki.

Career

He was appointed guest-lecturer of the Tsu Clan (Mie Prefecture).

Was a friend of Sanyo Rai and Chusai Oshio, noted Confucian scholars in the Kansai. While Sanyo was confined to bed with illness, he discussed with him whether the South or North Dynasty of Japan was legitimate and came to the conclusion that the North Dynasty was the legitimate Imperial family, contrary to the generally accepted theory supporting the South Dynasty.
