Igarashi Yuseki

Background

Igarashi Yuseki was born in 1827. He was the eldest son of Yusen.

Education

He studied several years under Boldwin, a Dutch physician in Nagasaki. Ddisciple of Seikai Totsuka.

Career

Although his Dutch learning was disdained by his clan, his fame rose when, during an epidemic of small pox, all his patients recovered while others did not. During an epidemic of typhoid fever in 1865, he succumbed to the disease. Served in the Murakami Clan in Echigo Province (Isngata Prefecture).
