Severianin, Igor was born on May 16, 1887 in St. Petersburg.
First poems published in 1904. Became very famous in 1913, when Gromokipiashchii Kubok was published. Main (and the only significant) representative of ego-futurism.
Immensely popular for a short period, completely eclipsed since. In contrast to the vulgar, pretentious verse which brought him fame in Russia, some of his poetry in exile reaches real depth and is marked by genuine feeling. Emigrated to Estonia after the October Revolution 1917.
Translated foreign poets, including Baudelaire, Verlaine, Mickiewicz and some Estonians.
