Ikaruga Koemon was born in 1610.
Ikaruga Koemon was called Ningyoya (Doll Maker) Koemon around 1615 when he was making clay dolls. Originally a retainer of Gemba Hayashi, chief retainer of Lord Hideie Ukita of Bizen Province (Okayama Prefecture).
He is regarded as the originator of Fushimi dolls. Under his method, the front and back halves of a doll were cast in separate molds and they were put together with glue and painted beautifully. There are Dharma and other dolls attributed to Koemon but most of them are imitations.
