育之助 田中
Ikunosuke Tanaka was born in 1903 in Tokyo, Japan.
He began serving his apprenticeship under Kuro Hosho of the previous generation (Name Kuro is succeeded to from generation to generation by head of this Hosho family to whom Noh acting is a traditional family profession) and in following year he made debut as Chigo (a little boy) in Kurama Tengu.
After his master's death (1917), he entered into apprenticeship with Kuro of next generation and received instructions mainly from Kanesuke Noguchi, one of distinguished pupils of Kuro of previous generation.
He made his first appearance as Shite (1918) in Komei (The Wedding) and he played Dojoji for first time (1941), he has given repeated performances in practically all other main pieces. With his sober and refined acting he created atmosphere of deep daintiness in Magemono (plays treating of events in Edo Period) while in such plays as Shakkyo (The Stone Bridge), he gave original dancing performance of deep charm. However, he lacked in vocal volume and is in delicate health. He made good study of acting of Kanesuke Nochigu and Osa Matsumoto, his two great seniors.
