His family went bankrupt when Ikusaburo was young. In 1876 went to Tokyo.
In Tokyo, Ikusaburo worked with the Ishikawajima Shipyard and in 1885 established a small machinery manufacturing plant in Osaka. He was the first man to make modern printing machines in Japan. He and his son, also named Ikusaburo, in 1914 completed an offset printing machine of their own device. They started manufacturing it 20 years before foreign offset machines were imported in Japan for the first time.
Ikusaburo had a son: Ikusaburo Nakajima.
