Ikuta K

Background

Ikuta K was born in 1805. She was the daughter of Tsumori Katori, a clansman of Tatebayashi (Gumma Prefecture).

Career

After her husband was killed in the Kashiwazaki aftair, Ikuta and her two sons, aged three and five, were arrested for questioning. She refused to answer any queries regarding her husband and also told her sons to stay silent and not eat anything. Later she bit off a finger from her hand and with the blood wrote two farewell poems and then after strangling her sons to death killed herself by biting off her tongue.
