1896 graduate Khar’kov University.
After graduate worked at Institute of Experimental Medical Did research on the role of the accessory sexual glands in the fertilization of mammals and devised artificial insemination method. 1901 foundcr-director, Experimental Station for the Artificial Insemination of Horses, village Dolgom, Oryol Province.
In the following period established several other artificial insemination centers. 1908, with the aid of I. P. Pavlov, founded a physiological department at the Saint St. Petersburg Veterinär)’ Administration Laboratory (later Laboratory for the Biology of Reproduction, Institute of Experimental Veterinary Medical). 1928-1931 carried out large-scale artificial insemination programs at the "SheepBreeder” and "Cattle-Breeder” Sovkhozes.
From 1931 head, Chair of the Physiology of Reproduction, Alma-Ata Zoological and Veterinary Institute and head, Alma-Ata Artificial Insemination Laboratory. Also worked on the interspecific hybridization of animals. 1910 bred several hybrids of wild and domestic animals at his zootech station in Askaniya-Nova.
1926-1927 led Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sei expedition to West Africa to experiment with the interspecific hybridization of anthropoid apes. Trained numerous zootechnicians and veterinarians.
