Career
He is currently a scout for the Flyers. Sinisalo played in the National Hockey League from 1981–1992, scoring 204 goals and 426 points, mostly with the Flyers. He is ranked the all time most successful goal scorer among the European players in the history of Philadelphia Flyers.
When Sinisalo started his ice hockey career in the 1970s, the National Hockey League teams did not scout extensively from Finland.
The first Finnish ice hockey player in National Hockey League was Matti Hagman in 1976-1977 for Boston Bruins. However, the National Hockey League scouts were so impressed by his talents that they made an exception of hiring him as a free agent after his 1980-1981 season in HIFK, Master of Science-Liiga where he scored 27 goals in 36 games.
He signed his first National Hockey League contract on February 17, 1981. Sinisalo started his first season with Flyers by making history by scoring his first National Hockey League score against Pittsburgh Penguins.
Sinisalo became the first Flyers player to score his first National Hockey League goal on a penalty shot, and the third of five National Hockey League players in history.
During the 1984-1985 season, Sinisalo become one of the Mike Keenan’s most trusted players with 73 points in 70 games, with a +32 rating. 1989-1990 was Sinisalo’s last season with Flyers, after which he played one season for Minnesota North Stars and two seasons for Los Angeles Kings. He retired from hockey in 1996 with his last team, the Kiekko-Espoo from Master of Science-Liiga.
Sinisalo was originally a junior product of HIFK.
After playing his last season of professional ice hockey for Kiekko-Espoo in 1995-1996 in Finland he took a job as the General Manager of the club
His last season of Kiekko-Espoo General Motors was 1998-1999. He was then hired as the European based National Hockey League Scout by San Jose Sharks General Manager, Dean Lombardi on September 12, 1998.
In July 2004, he was back in the Flyers organization as their European Scout.
