Ilya Dmitrievich was born in 1903 in the city of Voronezh, Russian Federation.
Ilya Dmitrievich studied at the Voronezh Free Art Workshops, Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops under S.M. Romanovich and N.Kh. Maximov (1919-1922). In 1922, he took up studies at the Moscow Higher State Artistic and Technical Workshops - Higher Art and Technical Institute (1922-1929), he studied in the lithographic department of the graphic faculty under the guidance of N.N. Kupreyanov. His thesis was the album of autolithograph related to sports topics "For a healthy shift" (1929).
During his training, Ilya Dmitrievich painted the scenery for the drama theater, together with N.I. Bessarabova, V.F. Ryndin, under M.M. Bespalov' guidance. He published his drawings in the journal "Art and Theater" (Voronezh, 1922). In 1922, together with G.T. Krutikov and V.F. Ryndinin, he participated in the organization of the "Vertep" puppet theater in the city of Voronezh.
In the early 1930s, Ilya Dmitrievich worked in Uchpedgiz. Since 1935, he was engaged in the design of exhibitions. In 1923, during the summer holidays, he designed the play "Jolly buffoon", together with U.P. Schukin at the Voronezh Theater for Children.
His works are presented at the A.S. State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin, at the art gallery of the city of Krasnoarmeysk, Moscow region.
