Imelda holds Doctor of Philosophy and Masters degrees from the University of Nottingham and a Bachelor honours degree from the University of Kent.
Professor Imelda Whelehan was appointed Dean, Higher Degree Research at The Australian National University in January 2017. Previously she held the position of Pro Vice-Chancellor Research Training & Dean of Graduate Research at the University of Tasmania, where she was also Professor in English and Gender Studies. Prior to moving to Australia in 2011 she was Head of Research and Research Students for the Faculty of Arts at De Montfort University, as well as being Director of the Centre for Adaptations.
Whelehan has had research funded by the Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, and the Office of Learning and Teaching in Australia, and has been Peer Reviewer for the Arts and Humanities Research Council and European Research Council. She is co-editor of Adaptation, Trustee and former Chair of the Association of Adaptation Studies.
