Inamura Sampaku studied Dutch in Edo (now Tokyo) and was appointed physician to Lord Ikeda of Tottori Prefecture. Later changed his name to Zuio Unagami. Compiled the Harma Dutch-Japanese Dictionary. This was the first foreign language dictionary to be published in Japan.
