Delaware to Ecclesiastical Synod from Dorchester. Pastor North Church, Boston, 1664, teacher 2d Church, Boston, 1664. Appointed a licenser of press, 1674.

Appointed fellow Harvard, 1674, acting president, 1685, president, 1686-1701. Chosen to take petitions from Congregational chs. in colony to King James II, 1688. Agent for Massachusetts in England, 1690, accepted charter from King William III. Author: Cases of Conscience Concerning Evil Spirits.
